Awakening - an invocation to new beginnings
"Step by step we advance from being nonhuman to being somewhat human... [to becoming] God's image." (Emanuel Swedenborg, Secrets of Heaven 62)
Distinguishing
The story of creation is a description of how God works in our lives, a gentle, creative hand that holds us to "Teach only love, for that is what you are."
Distinguishing, in that light, what matters most is not easy. Join Rev. David Lindrooth as he offers thoughts on how we might find our way forward.
Change
The story of creation is a description of how God works in our lives, a gentle, creative hand that holds us to "Teach only love, for that is what you are."
The Bible says that on the third day of creation, God said "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it." (Gen. 1:11)
How do we change, to move towards being fruitful in our lives? Where our seeds of faith become fruitful?
Enlightenment
The story of creation is a description of how God works in our lives, a gentle, creative hand that holds us to "Teach only love, for that is what you are."
"And God said, 'Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night... And God made the two great lights - the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night - and the stars." (Genesis 1:14-16)
The sun and moon can be thought of as the sources of inner light that help us navigate our lives: love and faith.
Speaking
The story of creation is a description of how God works in our lives, a gentle, creative hand that holds us to "Teach only love, for that is what you are."
In Day 5, things begin to move, God speaks to His creation.
Our words are important. Are they loving? Are your words kind, true, and useful? Who in your life is in need of loving words? Or words that inspire?
"See God at work in every good deed we do, and in every truth we speak." (Emanuel Swedenborg, Secrets of Heaven 39)
Wise and loving action — a vibrant presence
The story of creation is a description of how God works in our lives, a gentle, creative hand that holds us to "Teach only love, for that is what you are."
In Day 6,"God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them." Gen. 1:27
What does it mean to be created in God's image?
We act through the gift of God's love with conviction into our roles and tasks. Yes, we do have roles and tasks, but in the end they are all the same:
To uniquely be divine love in a way that no one else can or will.
How can you be a vibrant presence for others? Take action to show your love. See others as precious. See God's image in each other.
Resting
The story of creation is a description of how God works in our lives, a gentle, creative hand that holds us to "Teach only love, for that is what you are."
On Day 7, "God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it." Gen. 2:2-3
Here, we explore the day of rest, as well as the tragedy of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. How do we bring peace to the tragedies of our world. How do we support those who suffer?
